The Upcoming Nauvoo Pageant

The Nauvoo Pageant starts next Tuesday. Each night we will play music before the pageant. We do Sunset on the Mississippi, then run to the pageant, and play there.

Sunday was a busy day, we had a little commemoration at the Community of Christ (RLDS) chapel, so we played there. They had one of their apostles there. Then we went home, me and Elder Kimball went to the Bowers house. Because we found out its very close to ours, and we had some ice cream over there. (we can do other things that the other 7 elders can’t, because we have a car) Then we drove to Carthage, which is about an hour away. And we set up right beneath the window of the Carthage Jail, and we played gathering music. Then the Temple President, President Peterson, gave a really good talk. Then we played a bit more after, and went back home. It was a really nice day.

You’ve been asking about where I want to eat for that one meal we can eat together when you come to Nauvoo. I wouldn’t mind if we just ate at a subway. There is a Subway in Hamilton, its between Keokuk and Carthage. Or we could even set it up that you could eat with the Hardys, or one of the many couples.

We play so many songs, I would say my favorite would be a song called Beginue for Band, its a fun peice with fun horn stuff. But I like most of the songs we have, we play about 30-50 a day. Originally, we thought I might do some marching while in Nauvoo. Actually, we never March! And that's fine with me.

I really feel about Nauvoo. It is a city that was set up by Joseph Smith and governed in a way that the Lord would have a city governed, where everybody no matter what religion or race are welcome. When we work in the sites, the Gospel message that we give is about the Prophet Joseph Smith, and that we have a living prophet today. We tell how the inhabitants of Nauvoo followed a prophet, even if that meant to leave a city.

Sometimes, when we work in the sites, we are relieving the senior missionaries who normally work there. It depends on the site, when we were in the tin smith shop we relieved the senior missionaries, but in the Browning gun shop, and the brick yard we were working with the senior missionaries. The senior missionaries are so fun, i get to talk with the teamsters on the Band wagon, and they are always interesting. We went to Rendevous in Old Nauvoo last night. It's a program put on by all senior missionaries and it was really good. You'd better be seeing it! Elder Blackington is our conductor. He its very funny, and we have a good time with him. (As you know, he was the long-time conductor of the BYU Wind Symphony before he retired.)
