Green Valley

HOLA Mi primero semana en Arizona estaba muy bien! (My first week in Arizona has been very good!)

First off im having a great time, and we are working very very hard. Our area is huge, the weather is actually perfect everyday, a little cold in the morning. but nice winter weather :). We actually live in a city(town) called Green Valley, its pretty much a retirement city, with a ton of old people. So we dont do a ton of proseliting in the town. We are out in the Pueblitos in the middle of the valley, lots of trailer parks and lots of Spanish speakers. Our zone is called Sahuarita, and it's pronounced Sarita and means Little Sahara.

We didnt nock too many doors this week, we actually have alot of investigators. and alot of time we have to drive very far from place to place. we have a Maroon Truck that we take around, ill get to drive in 2 more weeks. we teach alot of lessons, and we talk to everybody. The spanish is a bit hard for me to understand, because they talk REALLY fast. So im getting used to that, and picking out a few words. so i sometimes get the gist of what they are saying.

We are teaching a lady and her family, her name is Gina Torres, usually we are just teaching her. But Elder Hernandez was working with her before i came in, since general conference. So we go over there everyday. She Just quit smoking, and drinking Tea! She has been off of it for a week. She has a hard time reading, but she likes it when we visit. She was going to go to church yesterday, but a problem with her family happened. So she Prayed and told God that she wanted to go, she even had her clothes ready for her. We were teaching her 2 days ago, and her Cousin-in-law came over, and she seemed really interested in our message, so we gave her a book of mormon, and she said she would be baptized. Also Gina, was a little Reluctant about being baptized, but last night she said she would commit to a date. She's going to be baptized on the 11th with her cousin! And hopefully her daughters. We are having a FHE over at her house tonight. She is so faithful, i know she will be happy with this decision.

We are also teaching this family who is very receptive, but they are gone alot. But we are teaching 2 of the sons, and the older one was very interested yesterday, and he wanted to read the book of mormon. So its very exciting. We have alot of investigators, probably like 15ish. And they are very receptive to the gospel, they just need the faith that this will help their lives, and it will give them blessings.

We really have to teach to their needs all the time. We teach people, Not lessons! And that really helps. The thing about the lessons is, that you have to follow the spirit, you can go in order with the principles, but sometimes that doenst work. Usually all i can really do is bear testimony, i just need to teach more, i get a bit timid when im with the people. but im working on opening up and teaching more.

My companion is great, we work very hard. Its alot of fun, I am learning alot! We have both dinner appointments and we cook quesodillas for our selves, and make sandwiches.

The gospel can change lives, and i have seen that even this week! We have seen so many miracles...like people being home, or people getting home right when we come by, we dont do the converting, the spirit does. its absolutely essential! We just bring that spirit to them.

Thanks for all the support. I might try to get some paper letters out sometime, i dont have alot of time to write on other days.
